Thomas Schinko is a research scholar at the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis, IIASA, in the city of Laxenburg, Austria. In IIASA’s Risk and Resilience (RISK) Program he is coordinating a research group on risk management and adaptation. He has been acting as a lecturer and researcher at the University of Graz, Austria, and as a lecturer at the Joint Vienna Institute (IMF) in Vienna, Austria. Thomas Schinko is a co-founder of the Loss & Damage Network, a partnership by scientists and practitioners from around the globe.

Thomas Schinko is an economist and environmental systems scientist by training. In his research he focuses on assessing the socio-economic impacts of climate related risks and related risk perceptions, the identification of risk management strategies, and on related ethical and politico-economic concerns.

Dr. Schinko's areas of expertise include quantitative economic modelling as well as qualitative social science methods with a particular focus on participatory processes and action research. He is on the editorial board of Journal for the Planet.
