Born in Puebla, Mexico. PhD in Physics at the University of Campinas, Brazil (1979). Full Professor at the Center for Research and Advanced Studies (Cinvestav) of the IPN. Visiting Professor at the University of Princeton, University of California at Santa Bárbara, University of Campinas-Brazil, and Pontificia Universidade Catolica in Río de Janeiro-Brazil. Mexican Academy of Sciences Award in Exact Sciences in 1991. Research Award of the Mexican Vacuum Society in 2001. Academic Secretary of Cinvestav-IPN in 1991-1994. Member of the Executive Committee of the UNESCO-International Organism: Latinoamerican Center of Physics (CLAF) in 1994-1996. Research and Graduate Adjunct Coordinator of the National Polytechnic Institute in 1998-2000; General Director of the Institute of Science and Technology of Mexico City in 2010-2012. Vice Chancelor of the National Polytechnic Institute in 2015-2017. Over 150 scientific publications in JCR journals, and over 20 PhD and MSc thesis directed. Pioneer in the study of the effects of free carriers on the semiconductors optical  properties. Fields of expertise: semiconductors: growth (LPE, sputtering and chemical synthesis), and structural (X-Ray, HRTEM, XPD, AFM), optical (Optical absorption, photoluminiscence, and Raman spectroscopies) and electrical characterization; optoelectronic devices: semiconductor diode lasers, photodetectors, solar cells, waveguides; III-V quantum dots for applications as fluorescent biomarkers and drug carriers.
