Agnes Kittel is a scientific advisor for the Institute of Experimental Medicine, Budapest. She received her MSc in chemistry from Eötvös Loránd University,Budapest, Hungary in 1981, worked two years for the 2nd Chemistry-Biochemistry Department, Semmelweis University, Budapest, altogether 8 years with child cares at home with her 3 children, then she joined the IEM Budapest.She obtained her doctoral degree from biochemistry in 1988, PhD from biology in 1996 and DSc degree in cell biology in 2006. By the help of national and international fellowships (Soros, ICGEB, FEBS, IBRO) she was visiting scientist inter alia at UCSD, San Diego and Harvard Medical School, Boston, USA, Weizmann Institute, Rehovot, Israel, University of Milan, Italy.Her research focuses on the investigation of the purinergic neurotransmission, extracellular vesicles and blood-brain barrier by means of electron microscopy.

Besides her scientific research since 2008 she has been involved in scientific journalism. She became scientific advisor in 2006 and since 2017 she has another task as Editor-in-Chief of the web page of her institute.As member of the Club of Hungarian Science Journalists and the European Union of Science Journalists' Associations, she participated in study trips organized by the EUSJA and as science journalist in scientific conferences since 2010. Her articles are available in Természet Világa, Élet és Tudomány as well as on the web page of ESUJA and on the home page of IEM.
