Dr. Abu Bakar Md. Ismail is currently working as a professor to the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, University of Rajshahi, Bangladesh. After graduating from the department of Applied Physics & Electronic Engineering of Rajshahi University as a "Chancellor's Awardee", Dr. Ismail joined the same department as a lecturer in 1989. He received his Ph.D degree from the University of Saga, Japan in 1998 under Japanese Government Scholarship. He was a "Regular Associate" of the Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics. At present he is also serving as the Director of Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of University of Rajshahi. Now he holds a permanent Professor position.

Dr. Ismail is very passionate about doing applicable research. His field of research includes Materials development for Solar Energy Harvesting, Optoelectronics, Sensors and Instrumentations, Development of green technology, etc. At present Dr. Ismail is involved with the extraction of Silicon in a low-energy and low-CO2 emission process from the sand of the famous Padma river of Bangladesh, and application of the extracted Silicon for the harvesting the solar energy in various ways like Photocatalysis, Photovoltaics and Photothermoelectrics. Dr. Ismail has supervised many Ph.D and M.Sc researches and has published a good number of articles in reputed journals. He has attended and presented in numerous conferences, symposiums and workshops in home and abroad.
