Prof. Ioan Dumitrache holds a PhD in Electric Automation from University Politehnica of Bucharest (UPB). He joined the staff of UPB in 1962, reaching full professorship in 1982 at the Department of Automation. 

Prof. Dumitrache served as Deputy Dean (1976-1984) and Dean (1984-1990) of the Faculty of Automatic Control and Computers, UPB, and Rector (2000-2004) of the University Politehnica of Bucharest. 

Prof. Dumitrache has authored more than 40 books and monographs in control engineering, intelligent control of processes, numerical control, optimizations, intelligent robots, autonomous systems, intelligent manufacturing, cyber-physical systems, etc. He has authored more than 300 articles in peer-review journals and international proceedings and has edited 22 volumes of national and international conferences in automation and information technology. 

Prof. Dumitrache is the President of the Romanian Society of Automation and Technical Informatics.

For more than 10 years he was President of the National Council of Universities Research.

President of the Romanian Coalition for Engineering Education. 

President of the National Member Organization of IFAC.

Member of the Academy of Technical Sciences since 2000.

Full member of the Romanian Academy since 2017.
