Virgil-Florin Duma is Professor at the 'Aurel Vlaicu' University of Arad, head and founder of the 3OM Optomechatronics Group (http://3om-group-optomechatronics.ro), as well as PhD Advisor at the University 'Politehnica' of Timisoara (UPT), Romania. He received his PhD cum laude from UPT in 2001, where he graduated in Fine Mechanics and Optics in 1991, valedictorian. He is a Fulbright Alumn at The Institute of Optics, University of Rochester, NY (2009-2010), where he is currently Vising Scientist. He is also Visiting Senior Research Fellow at the University of Kent, UK (since 2009). Prof. Duma has defended his Habilitation Thesis in 2013 at the University 'Politehnica' of Bucharest. He published more than 250 papers in journals and conference proceedings, 15 books, and has 1 patent and 2 patent applications pending (https://www.researchgate.net/profile/Virgil-Florin_Duma). In the last decade he secured funding in excess of 2M Euro for his group. His main interests are in Measuring Systems, Optics and Biomedical Imaging. He is Senior Member of SPIE, Life Member of OSA and of the Fulbright Association.
