Carlos Acevedo studied microbiology and biochemistry in Mexico-City. In 2010, he obtained his PhD in genetic code engineering with Nediljko Budisa at the MPI for Biochemistry in Germany. He then carried out postdoctoral work in biocatalysis and directed evolution with Manfred Reetz at the MPI für Kohlenforschung and Marburg University in Germany. Since 2016 he works as a senior scientist in the biotech company Biosyntia in Copenhagen, Denmark.
