Øystein Ulleberg is principal scientist at the Institute for Energy Technology, Kjeller, Norway.  He is also Associate Professor at the Department of Technology Systems, University of Oslo (part time).

He has been working in the field of renewable energy since his PhD in 1995-1998.  His main area of research is on system modelling and analysis of alternative energy systems based on renewable energy and hydrogen and fuel cell technology, including zero emission transport solutions.

He has been responsible for establishing hydrogen research laboratories at IFE in Norway and the University of Western Cape in South Africa, and has also been involved in the development of several large renewable hydrogen energy system demonstration projects with industrial partners in Norway (e.g. Norsk Hydro and Equinor).

Ulleberg has an extensive international network, from IEA and EU working groups and various bilateral projects with partners in Germany, Canada, Japan, China, and South Africa, and is frequently invited to speak at international meetings, seminars, and conferences.  In the period 2008-2012 he was the Director of HySA Systems, a South-African Center of Competence on technology validation and systems integration of hydrogen and fuel cell technology.  He is currently representing Norway in the IEA Technology Collaboration Programme on Hydrogen.

He has supervised MSc and PhD students in Norway and abroad and published reports and articles in peer reviewed journals regularly since 1995.  Ulleberg currently supervise students and post.docs. in the area of energy systems / energy informatics, as part of his position as Associate Professor at the University of Oslo.

Ulleberg was in 2017 appointed to be the Director of MoZEES, a Norwegian research center for climate friendly technology (FME) on Mobility Zero Emission Energy Systems for road, rail, and sea. MoZEES involves 7 research partners, 25 industry partners, and 7 public partners, and has a special focus on on battery and hydrogen technology and zero-emission heavy-duty transport systems.
