Máté Varga is and Assistant Professor at the Department of Genetics of ELTE Eötvös Loránd University (Budapest, Hungary), where he is the PI of the zebrafish research group. His lab focuses on modeling monogenic human diseases and on uncovering the early events during the emergence of the dorso-ventral axis in the course of vertebrate development.

He has been an active science communicator for over a decade, and has been rewarded for his reporting by the National Association of Hungarian Journalists.
