Prof. Valeriu TABĂRĂ was born on July 1st 1949, Sălciua Village, Alba district. Graduate of the Faculty of Agronomy of the University of Agricultural Sciences and Veterinary Medicine Timișoara (UASVM Timisoara). Ph.D. in agronomy (1984), Doctor Honoris Causa of the University of Agricultural and Veterinary Medicine Iasi.

Academic titles: Member of the Academy of Agricultural and Forestry Sciences ”Gheorghe Ionescu-Sisesti” (AAFS); Member of the Academy of Scientists in Romania.

Professional activity and positions: Professor for Phytotechny at the University of Agricultural Sciences and Veterinary Medicine Timisoara; research activity in plants breeding at the Agricultural Research Station Lovrin and Faculty of Agronomy in Timisoara, breeder of hemp varieties registered in Romania and UE; Research projects chief, Vice-president (2013-2017) and President of the AAFS (2017-at present).

Public activity: president of the Romanian National Unity Party (1992-2001); member in the Liberal Democratic Party leadership (2002-2012); Deputy in the Romania’s Parliament (1992-2000; 2004-2012); vice leader and leader of the parliamentary group; secretary, president of the Commission of Agriculture, Food Industry and Services in the Chamber of Deputies; President in the Interparlamentary Group in Romania (GRUI) (1996-2000); President of some groups for friendship with other countries.

Scientific prizes and distinctions: Various distinctions and medals received from different countries. The Prize “Gheorghe Ionescu-Sisesti” and “Academic Merit” prize of the Romanian Academy; “P.S. Aurelian” prize of the Academy of Scientists in Romania; prize “Nicolae Saulescu” of AAFS; Academic Merit of AAFS.
