Tonni Agustiono Kurniawan is an Associate Professor at Xiamen University China). Prior to joining the University, he was a scholar at United Nations University (Tokyo). He got his PhD from the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. His research focuses on the applications of low-cost adsorbents to remove heavy metals from contaminated water. Significant contribution to research in the field has earned him recognitions from the World Economic Forum. So far Kurniawan has been cited over 6,000 times with a Hirsch factor of 22 (Scopus). His most cited paper, entitled “Low-cost absorbents for heavy metals uptake from contaminated water” in Journal of Hazardous Materials, ranks among Scopus’ Top 25 Most Cited Articles in Chemical Engineering. Recently Institute for Scientific Information-Thompson Reuters has identified him among the top 1% of researchers in the field of Engineering according to Essential Science Indicators.
