Prof. Sergei Kilin
Vice Chairman of NASB Presidium, National Academy of Sciences of Belarus
CV
Sergei Yakovlevich Kilin (b. 18.05.1952, Gomel), physicist. Member of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, NASB (2014; corresponding member 2009).
Graduated from Belarusian State University (1974). Worked at the Institute of Physics of the Academy of Sciences of the BSSR (since 1994 – the Head of Quantum Optics Lab). Simultaneously Professor at the Belarusian State University, 1992.
Deputy Academic Secretary of the Physics Department of NASB, 2008. Chief Scientific Secretary of NASB, 2012. Deputy Chairman of the Presidium of NASB, 2014. Chair of the Belarusian Physical Society, 2005-2011.
Scientific works on quantum optics and quantum informatics. He developed a theory of quantum fluctuations in nonlinear-optical interactions and predicted a number of quantum effects observed at single atoms level: the bunching and anti-bunching of different-frequency photons, spontaneous decay freezing in photonic crystals, generation squeezed and other nonclassical states in multiphoton processes, single atom phase bistability and others. Developed new methods and systems for quantum information technologies, including the use of NV-color centers in diamond for quantum information purposes. The first in the CIS fiber-optic system of QKD was created in his lab by means of time-bit coding of single-photon pulses.
Author of more than 460 scientific papers, including 4 books. State Awards for works in Quantum Optics and Information 1982, 2002. The Medal of Francisk Skaryna, 2014.
