Dr. Erna Karalija is an Associate professor at Faculty of Science, University of Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina. She obtained her PhD in 2015 (plant physiology), and has been a researcher for the past 10 years. Hers ongoing research include (1) Increase of metal hyper-accumulating potential in selected plant species funded by Ministry of Education, science and Youth of Canton Sarajevo; (2) Bioactive compounds of endemic plant species and elicitation of bioactive compounds production. Alongside research and teaching she is head of the master and postgraduate studies at Faulty of Science. For three years she has been a representative of Young Scientists within Berlin process and attended three Joint Science conferences (2016, 2017, 2018).

Apart from her academic duties and responsibilities she actively participates in public engagement scientific activities through organisation of workshops for school students such as “Little school of plant cloning” (2015, 2016), Night in the Museum (Plant cloning workshop, 2017, 2018), Researchers Night (games – win a clone plant for a science fact; 2016, 2017, 2018) and biodiversity field workshop for students (BioBlitz, 2019).
