György Szabó is Associate Professor at the Department of Photogrammetry and Geoinformatics, Budapest University of Technology and Economics. He graduated in Civil Engineering and received PhD in Geoscience from the Budapest University of Technology and Economics. Beyond his academic work he has more than 30 years’ experience in applied research and development of national and international projects. He is the secretary general of the Hungarian Association for Geoinformation (HUNAGI),  ExCom member of the European Umbrella Organisation for Geographic Information,  active member of the Hungarian Society of Surveying and Mapping, president of GIS commission, member of the Hungarian National Standardization Agency GIS Committee, Hungarian Space Council and the John von Neumann Computer Society.
