She is internationally recognized for her researches in natural products chemistry. She discovered several hundred new/novel natural products with potential applications in medicine and agriculture including an anti-epileptic compound (US Patent No.: US 9,272,998 B1); antimycobacterial constituents (US patent No.:  US 8,389,503 B2) and US Patent No. : US 8,420,660 B2 ), biodegradable, bio-pesticides and bio-fertilizers from neem (Azadirachta indica); established a pilot plant for their production.

The Journal Impact Factor: 565.754; Science Citations : 6959; h-index: 41;  supervised 38 PhDs, 08 M.Phil and 28 M.Sc students; participated and presented papers in more than 84 international conferences.

Actively involved in the development of ICCBS, at the University of Karachi and served as Co-Director and Acting Director from time to time and continuing with many administrative responsibilities.

Fellow of the Pakistan Academy of Sciences (PAS), TWAS, OWSD and Chemical Society of Pakistan (CSP). Chairperson, OWSD Pakistan Chapter. Recipient of several national and international awards: civil awards Sitar-e-Imtiaz and Tamgha-i-Imtiaz, the First Al-Khwarizmi International Award, the first Salam Prize in Chemistry and the first prize by the National Book Council of Pakistan, the prestigious title of Distinguished National Professor and Life Time Academic Achievement Award by HEC Pakistan.
